SizE

The easiest way is to measure your current belt from the ‘favorite’ hole to the end of the buckle. If you don’t have a belt then take your waist measurement. This is best done through the belt loops on your pants. If you don’t have a fabric measuring tape, use string or similar, then place the string against a ruler or tape measure afterwards to get your waist size. We make our belts so the tip will extend past the buckle about 6-7 inches. This usually place the tip right at the edge of the front pocket.

Style

Here at ART/D we hand-cut our belt ends to either a point or a round tip. We generally use square Bandera buckles. If you don’t want a ‘keeper’ (the leather loop that the end goes through), then we can use the more rounded Center Bar type buckle.

COLOR

Buckles are available in Nickel, Brass, Pewter or Black. Please note that the black coating will chip over time. Nickel free hardware can be arranged.

Belts are available in Black, Brown or Natural. We are more than happy to try different colors, although the results may vary.

Black belts are made by dipping the blanks in a ‘vinegaroon,’ or a ferric acetate solution, which reacts with the tannins in the leather. It’s an ancient process, and pretty neat too. The solution penetrates deep into the blank for a lasting finish.

Brown and all other colors are dyed with chemical dyes.

Natural belts are not dyed and will age to a chestnut brown over time.

Material

We use 8-10 ounce Herman Oak veg-tanned leather. That makes the belts about 4-5 mm thick—nice and solid, without being too bulky. We cut our blanks 1.5 inches wide. All belts are treated with wonderful beeswax from Blue Heron Gardens Ltd. in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Pricing

Belts are $60 CAD (plus shipping).
